Fernando Aceves

One of the world’s best ‘live’ photographers, Fernando has photographed hundreds of concerts in the United States, Canada and Great Britain.

Fernando Aceves first saw the light of day in Mexico City in 1965. What began as an adolescent concern for finding his personal vision of music, transformed over time into a most prolific photographic journey documenting the force of rock and roll.

Although he has worked mainly for concert promoters, record companies, Mexican and foreign publications, Fernando has often worked with the artists themselves:

  • The Rolling Stones in the El Ex Templo de San Lazaro in Mexico City, January 1995
  • The “New World Tour” of Paul McCartney in 1993
  • David Bowie, 1997 during the “Earthlink” Tour
  • Scorpions, Mexico City 1993
  • Pink Floyd “The Division Bell Tour” 1994

Traveling from Mexico City throughout the United States, Canada and England, Aceves captured the Rolling Stones, Carlos Santana, Bono, Ray Charles, Chuck Berry, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Britney Spears and many other performers in unique historical circumstances. The Rolling Stones in San Lazaro’s temple in downtown Mexico City and David Bowie in front of Diego Rivera’s wall painting are two examples of his powerful and artistic images.

Often shooting 2-3 concerts each night, Fernando has acquired the incredible sensibility of sensing the motions of the rock star on stage; being able to predict crucial moments of both ecstasy and reflection. His precision in capturing these moments has become machine-like, and with thousands of concerts, rock and jazz, his archive now reaches into millions of images. His preoccupation of the importance of documenting each event, has turned Fernando into one of the most important music experts in Mexico.

In 2000, The Museum of Modern Art of Mexico City presented his highly influential exhibition, The Rolling Stones: the first time music photography had been given status in Mexico.

Fernando’s work is now featured in many photographic galleries all over the world.
